Rose Ayling-Ellis helped to bring sign language to our screens and our awareness. Mary Sumner brought the gift of mothering to our awareness. For our 150th anniversary, a signed version of Mary Sumner’s prayer is being introduced in Newcastle Diocese, as a sign of ‘connectedness’. The prayer is read slowly so you can watch the hand movements. If you are left-handed, use your dominant hand for all the key signs. Have fun – giving it a go is more important than ‘perfection’.
