Rt Revd Dr Helen-Ann, Bishop of Newcastle, says of MU…
“The Mothers’ Union needs little introduction, but it is worth repeating how important this organisation is not just locally but across the Anglican Communion.Newcastle has a unique connection to the MU: the first Bishop, Ernest Wilberforce, encouraged Mary Sumner to make her first public address about her women’s groups and so launch what was to become a global organisation.
As I sit and write these words at his desk, which is in my office, I am honoured to endorse and support the work that MU does. Prayer and action are at the heart of the Gospel and I hope they will frame all our work together in God’s name.”
