The Way of the Cross

The season of Lent will soon be with us.

I do not intend to send any chaplaincy post reflections during Lent as parish churches have many options to choose from – services, lent courses, etc.

Mary Sumner House has also put a variety of prayer/worship resources online – www.mothersunion.org

In advance of Lent, I offer two resources you may wish to consider for personal use or to share with a group.

Click on ‘The Way of the Cross- What he carried’  It follows the stations along Jesus’ journey to the cross. These can be used as a personal resource or with a group: you can add your own prayers and hymns to accompany.

If you are looking for something to ‘take up for Lent’ (as distinct from ‘giving up) you may wish to consider a book which was reviewed in Church Times. ‘Searched Me Out and Known Me – Journeying through Lent with the Psalms’ by Charlie Bell. Derek and I sent for a copy (available through Church House Publishing and other booksellers) and interestingly it includes a forward by Bishop Helen-Ann. There is a chapter for Ash Wednesday, for each Sunday through Lent and for each day of Holy Week. Each chapter has a psalm, a gospel reading of the day, a reflection, questions and a collect.
